FAR CRY 4 CAMPAIGN REVIEW

Far Cry 4
Look at that Himalayan Mountain!

Far Cry 4, developed by Ubisoft Montreal and released by Ubisoft, is a 2014 first-person shooter title. It is the successor to the 2012 Far Cry 3, and the Far Cry series' fourth main installment. The game takes place in Kyrat, a country in the fictional Himalayas. Ajay Ghale, a young Kyrati-American, follows the main plot, as he is trapped in a civil war between the Royal Army of Kyrat, ruled by tyrannical King Pagan Min, and a rebel movement called the Golden Path. Gameplay focuses on action and exploration; players use a large variety of weapons to fight enemy soldiers and dangerous animals.

GAMEPLAY

In the fictional country of Kyrat, players assume control of Ajay Ghale, a Kyrati-American who is on a quest to spread the ashes of his deceased mother. Different short and long-range weapons can be used by Ajay, including handguns, revolvers, shotguns, assault rifles, submachine guns, bows, flamethrower, rocket launchers, grenade launchers, and sniper rifles. After significant advancement through the game, more powerful versions of these weapons become available.

Throwable weapons include bombs for fragmentation, Molotov cocktails, and knives for throwing. To stop gunfights and to execute melee takedowns from above or up-close, the game enables players to take cover. Far Cry 4 gives players the ability to kick objects and the ability to conceal the bodies of enemies, unlike previous installments in the game.

Our Weapon Supplier. (doesn't look like one)

To tackle missions, players can use a number of methods. For example, without being detected, players can use stealth to evade enemies and complete goals, or they also have the option to attack enemies with weapons and vehicles. The player-character is equipped with a digital camera that allows all identifiable enemies, animals, and plunder to be labeled and highlighted. Players can also travel on elephants, which act as offensive weapons similar to tanks. Players can throw bait at opponents, attracting nearby wildlife hostile to the player and enemies alike. It's also possible for players to hunt and skin animals.

The game features an open-world setting that is free to be accessed by players. The game features different vehicles, including buggies, vans, and water vehicles such as speedboats, to allow players to move between places faster. Players can simultaneously drive and shoot and allow auto-drive, in which the artificial intelligence of the game takes over the task of driving the vehicle and directs players to their goals. While driving, players can also hijack other cars. In the game, the Buzzer is added, an aerial, gyrocopter-like vehicle, enabling players to gain a tactical advantage from the air. The game also features parachutes, wingsuits, and grappling hooks; these objects help players swing across cliffs and navigate the world quickly. In Shangri-La, a magical dreamland where players battle demons like the Kyrati warrior Kalinag, parts of the game take place. Players are supported by an injured tiger in Shangri-La, which acts as their companion. Players can issue commands to the tiger, which assists them in battle.

Far Cry 4
You can ride the elephant in the game. I love this feature.

The world of games is split into two halves: Kyrat's North and South. In South Kyrat, players start and are free to explore it almost immediately, but over the course of the story, they can only unlock North Kyrat. By liberating bell towers, the map is gradually opened up, freeing them from the influence of Pagan Min and allowing the Golden Road to grow. These towers help players reveal new areas on the map and identify new points of interest. With outposts run by Pagan Min, which can be invaded by players, the world is scattered. It is also possible to find four larger outposts or fortresses, and they have better defenses and more challenging enemy combinations. If these outposts are successfully liberated by players, they will serve as fast-travel points, enabling easy navigation through the world of the game. There are also additional missions and quests available. There are several side-missions, including hostage rescues, bomb disposal quests, and hunting missions that can be completed. The collected animals' parts can then be used for crafting new pouches and belts.

For players to choose from, there are two sets of skills called The Tiger and The Elephant. The Tiger upgrades primarily to boost the offensive abilities of players, while the Elephant upgrades strengthen the defensive skills of players. Throughout the game, a series of unpredictable events and hostile encounters take place; for instance, the player can suddenly be attacked by an eagle, struck by a vehicle, or experience an animal attack. By performing kind actions towards the rebels, players can accumulate karma, such as by supporting them in fights when animals or enemies attack them. Doing so will offer players discounts when buying new products at trading posts, and will encourage players to call members of the Golden Path for help and back-up. By collecting things like masks, propaganda posters, and prayer wheels, players may also gain experience. There is also an Arena mode, in which players compete for additional experience points and prizes against human opponents and animals.

STORYLINE

Far Cry 4
Ajay's House.

The story was influenced by Nepal's ten-year-long Maoist insurgency. The game follows Ajay Ghale, a young Kyrati-American who returns to spread the ashes of his deceased mother to his native country of Kyrat (a fictional Himalayan country originating from the Kirat ethnicities of Nepal and northern India). Before being involved in a series of civil wars, Kyrat was once an independent state in the Himalayas governed by a royal family. Ajay finds the nation in a state of conflict between the Royal Army of Kyrat, led by the eccentric and tyrannical King Pagan Min of that land, and the Golden Road, a rebel movement fighting to free Kyrat from the authoritarian rule of Min. The decisions Ajay makes will decide Kyrat's fate.

Ajay Ghale returns to his home country of Kyrat, after the death of his mother Ishwari, to fulfill Ishwari's final wish by returning her ashes to Lakshmana. His mission, however, is disrupted when the bus he is riding on is attacked by the Royal Army, and Pagan Min, the eccentric and violent king of the land, takes him prisoner. Ajay escapes with the help of Sabal, a commander of the Golden Path, a rebel movement founded by Ajay's father, Mohan Ghale, after finding his way through Pagan's mansion. As the Royal Army has taken control of the only airport in Kyrat and sealed the borders, Ajay is unable to leave the country.

The revolt has stagnated in the twenty-odd years after Ishwari and Ajay fled Kyrat, with the Golden Path now battling for their very life. Ajay becomes a metaphor for the Golden Road to rally around as the son of Mohan Ghale. The Golden Path plans to crack the stranglehold of Pagan on power by attacking his three regional governors after freeing a group of hostages and liberating territories controlled by Pagan: Paul "De Pleur" Harmon, who oversees the development of opium and runs the torture chambers of Pagan; Noore Najjar, who runs poaching and prostitution rings and who became a victim of the cruelty of Pagan herself after he abducted her family.

Weird things I found in the game.

However, the newly discovered momentum of the Golden Path is challenged by deep divisions between its commanders, Sabal, who supports conventional values, and Amita, who promotes change, including a strong dependence on drug trafficking. On several occasions, Ajay is forced to interfere, with his actions affecting the direction the Golden Path takes. After Noore helps Ajay find a way to penetrate the stronghold of De Pleur, enabling the rebellion to catch him, the first governor to fall is De Pleur. Later on, Amita and Sabal appoint Ajay to confront and kill Noore. In her battle arena, she dies, either with Ajay killing her or with Noore committing suicide upon learning that Pagan had executed her family years ago. The missions or Noorie and the Arena are very good but be careful there are some girls without clothes moving all around. Make sure you visit the arena only when you are playing the game alone.

Ajay is approached by Willis Huntley, a CIA agent who provides the rebels with information and pages from his father's diary in return for killing Yuma's lieutenants, as the Golden Path secures Kyrat's southern provinces. Huntley admits they were actually CIA assets after Ajay kills some of them and that he was sent to clean up after the CIA as the organization no longer saw Pagan as a threat. As the Golden Path prepares to advance into northern Kyrat, Huntley betrays Ajay to the Pagan.

Ajay ends up in the mountain jail of Yuma, from which he manages to run. This was the toughest and scariest mission in the game for me. He learns in the process that Yuma, mostly because of his affection for Ajay's late mother, has begun to hate Pagan. The Golden Path marches northward, and while Ajay tries to reconcile with another group of rebels, Pagan betrays Yuma to the Golden Path, aware of Yuma's plotting against him. Ajay is drawn into a fight with her and prevails, but new heights are reached by tensions between Amita and Sabal, and Ajay is forced to make a final decision on who is going to lead the Golden Path. In order to prevent them from starting another civil war, whichever leader he chooses then sends Ajay to kill the other and Ajay can choose either to kill them as ordered or to let them go. Ajay joins them for an assault on Pagan's fortress with the Golden Path now unified under a single leader and moves on alone to Pagan's palace while the Golden Path holds off the military.

ENDINGS

Far Cry 4

Ajay meets Pagan, who at the beginning of the game punishes him for escaping, saying that he only ever wanted to help Ajay. Ajay is given a final choice by Pagan: shoot him now or listen to him. If Pagan is shot by Ajay (Which I did) the game ends instantly and the credits roll. If Ajay chooses to listen instead, Pagan reveals that in the early days of the Golden Path, Mohan sent Ishwari to spy on Pagan, but they fell in love and had a daughter together: Ajay's half-sister, Lakshmana (This made me sad). Mohan killed Lakshmana for the deception of Ishwari, and Ishwari, in exchange, killed him before leaving the country with baby Ajay. Pagan shows Ajay to a church containing the ashes of Lakshmana, and Ajay places the ashes of Ishwari inside. Then, Pagan boards a helicopter and leaves peacefully, leaving the country in the hands of Ajay. As it flies away, the player can choose to shoot down Pagan's helicopter, killing Pagan in the process, or let him leave.

The Golden Path seizes hold of Kyrat in the aftermath. The final ending depends on which leader Ajay sided within the end. If Amita is put in charge, she turns Kyrat into an oppressive state of drugs, forcing villagers to work in factories and drug fields, and conscripting children into the community as soldiers to reinforce their ranks against the remains of the Royal Army; Ajay also discovers that Bhadra has been taken away "never to come again from her sleep,". Kyrat becomes a patriarchal fundamentalist theocracy when Sabal is put in power, where all the supporters of Amita are hanged, women are denied basic political rights, and Bhadra is anointed as a religious icon for the nation to rally around. The player has the option of killing or leaving the leader of the Golden Path alive. I chose to kill Amita because I supported Sabal's ideology of destroying all the drugs, but when in the ending I saw Sabal changed as soon as he got the power, I regretted it. If you will kill Sabal then her attitude changes too. She takes away men and male kids from the village against their will to train them to become her soldiers.

You will find an Easter egg ending at the beginning of the game. Ajay must simply wait at the dinner table in the mansion of Pagan to cause it when Pagan returns, he thanks Ajay for being a "gentleman" and leads him to the shrine of Lakshmana, telling Ajay about his family history. Pagan invites Ajay to join him after Ajay plants his mother's ashes at the shrine to 'finally fire some goddamn weapons.' Some people say that this is the best ending of the game as Ajay finally does what he came for without killing anyone and without getting into any trouble. There are many easter eggs in the game and it is really fun to find them all.

But I think, finishing the game and killing Pagan Min after Ajay places her mother's ashes in the right place is the better choice. Because you will get a chance to play a very adventurous game and kill some bad guys. I like killing bad guys(in the game) who doesn't?

REVIEW

In pursuit of treasure, religious monuments, and hostages requiring help, I scaled cliffs with climbing gear. I stole oxygen masks and snowmobiles for survival while venturing into the Himalayan mountains, and used the unstable climate to crush enemies with snow. A sad tale I wanted to learn more about was told in long-lost letters. On the trail of a serial killer, collectible calling cards had me and gorgeous views had me in awe of Kyrat's lakes, mountains, and other stunning scenery.

I enjoyed exploring every inch of Kyrat because it always provided convincing possibilities. It was always front and center to free it from the oppressive government; as in Far Cry 3, towers occupied by enemies act as platforming puzzles with a satisfying sense of personal advancement.

In Far Cry 4, liberating outposts is more complex than in its predecessor, and more rewarding as a consequence. Take the stealthy approach and you can individually disable alarms to avoid enemy reinforcements and use bait to draw the attention of the enemy to tigers, bears, and other creatures. The Hunter, a modern, silent enemy wielding a bow and capable of charming animals to fight for him is the tough counter to this. Plus, often enemy forces want to retake their territories, to challenge you to abandon what you're doing and fend off ruthless soldiers' waves.

Over almost every other goal, the supernatural side-story set in Shangri-La stands out. By nature, it's linear, but it adds sufficiently fresh and interesting concepts to have its own identity. A great change of pace is teaming up with a fearsome tiger, slowing downtime, and shooting five arrows at a time to take down fearful demons. The myth is episodically clarified, and though I didn't completely understand the legend, I couldn't dig quick enough for the next piece of Shangri-strange, La's wonderful universe. The moral of this part of the game was really awesome. It is part of the game I like the most. There are these two characters in the game Yogi and Reggie. They are friendly and they send Ajay on drug trips and all the trips are very awesome. They are the cool characters of the game.

Far Cry 4
Shangri La's Painting.

In Kyrat, everything has a cause and an impact. You can craft holsters to hold more guns, or wallets to carry more cash, by hunting and skinning animals. Reclaiming enemy territories generates fast-travel points and unlocks side-quests that promise big payouts of cash. Destroying propaganda posters unlocks new tasks and wins points of expertise. XP unlocks new powers, such as aerial takedowns, resistance to injury, and elephant riding, which is both hilarious and very helpful. It also offers chances to become a better hunter, showing off animal and enemy positions with unlockable injections or doubling the damage you deal and take.

Far Cry 4

The overall graphics of the game is really good. Also, the gameplay is really smooth and I faced no glitches in the game. Although the environment of the game is not as good as Far Cry 2 still it is quite enjoyable. The addition of the auto-driving feature is really helpful. Since this game is set in India. Many characters in the game can be heard speaking in Hindi which I liked very much. But the Hindi spoken in the game is not very perfect, it is like the dialogues spoken in the game are spoken by someone who doesn't know Hindi. You can easily identify this difference if you are an Indian.

GOODGAMER7 RATES THIS GAME=> 8/10

GOODGAMER7 => RECOMMENDED (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED IF YOU ARE AN INDIAN)
